At Yankee Spirits we like to help our customers make the most informed choices when choosing their items they’re going to purchase. In that regard, we invite you to attend a tequila tasting, but not just any old tequila tasting. All the brands for this event are certified additive free by Tequila Matchmaker.
What are additives when it comes to tequila? We’re glad you asked!
First off, the use of additives in tequila is completely permitted under the rules (CRT) governing tequila production.
The rules state that a producer can use additives, and this does not need to be disclosed on the label, as long as it does not exceed 1% of total volume.
Many brands use additives in their product; there is no true way to know if a brand uses them. Thanks to Tequila Matchmaker, we can tell which brands definitely do not.
In 2020, the Tequila Matchmaker website launched an Additive-Free program, a platform for top brands and distilleries to showcase their commitment to transparency and purity in production processes. Joining the program is a voluntary choice, but those who do must renew their commitment annually.
