A wine with pronounced aromas of red fruits, nuts and sweet spices with a vanilla finish. Dry, with balanced acidity, and soft, velvety tannins. It can be consumed pleasantly young but it can also age from 3 to 5 years.
Ideal food combination: Meat dishes with light red sauces, white meats (eg. chicken with hilopites), giouvetsi with eggplant purée, octopus cooked in vinegar.

The 2017 Agiorgitiko Driopi from Tselepos was aged for 10 months in 35% new French barriques and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Elegant and nicely crafted, this is a middle-of-the-road Agiorgitiko that doesn't get too big or too thin-it's just right. Bright and showing good red-fruit flavor on the finish, it adds a hint of earth for complexity and velvet for texture. The tannins are ripe, but there is some grip on the finish. Overall, this is an easygoing and nicely priced offering. It has some chance to hold well for most of the remainder of the decade and perhaps might even develop a bit more in the shorter term. It drinks well now, though.
