"Reminds me of chocolate cake drizzled with a blackberry syrup reduction and dusted with a bit of cinnamon... Superb balance and amazing length for this price point" - Joe Astukewicz, Wine Manager, Sturbridge
"Talk about a neat spice signature- there's just oodles dark fruit character complemented by sweet brown spices, almost like hints of nutmeg and cinnamon, but they complement, rather than mask the fruit..." - Adam Merrifield, YS Wine Consultant
"This is a killer bottle of Shiraz for under $30! Just one question - how much more can we get?" - Scott Arndt, Director of Wine Operations at Yankee Spirits, posing an important question to our supplier after tasting this wine.
This just about says it all folks, get it while you can. This wine has yet to be reviewed by the major wine press, but the 2005 (which sold out very quickly) was among Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of 2007. Beat the rush by picking up a case of this blockbuster while you can. This wine is sure to please lovers of old and new-world style Shiraz alike!
Celebrate the the Spring with a "Spritz," our Cocktail of the Month
I had the pleasure of visiting with Sergio Mionetto at his winery in Italy’s Veneto last month, and I can say with certainty that he’s the most passionate, joyful winemaker I’ve met since I’ve been in the wine biz. Besides being “christened” by Sergio with an entire bottle of his delicious bubbly at lunch one afternoon (in front of my forty or so travelmates!), I learned a ton about the region and its most treasured wine: Prosecco. Located at the foot of the magnificent pre-Alps, Sergio’s vineyards are situated on the breathtaking, steep slopes of Valdobbiadene (which I can now pronounce with confidence.) MIONETTO’S PROSECCO is one of the best sparkling wines for the money you’ll ever find. With an amazing amount of care, Sergio crafts this from his beloved Prosecco grapes into a refreshing bottle of fizz that’s hard to resist. Crisp, light, dry, and citrusy, it’s great on its own. But I recommend trying something new: the savory, provincial drink of the Veneto, a “Spritz” is a refreshing, complex and cool bitter-sweet cocktail that’s sure to become a staple at your house once you try it. -Joe Astukewicz
The Recipe:
It’s simple: start by pouring one part APEROL ($19.99/750ml), a delicious, light Italian apertif made with an infusion of orange, rhubarb, and exotic spices, into a glass with ice. Add one part MIONETTO PROSECCO BRUT (Sugg. $14, SALE $8.99 NET) and one part PELLEGRINO Sparkling Water ($2.09/750ml + deposit.) Stir and garnish with an orange slice and a large green olive, pit intact, like Laurel Hill’s Spanish Queen “Cannonballs” ($4.79/10oz. jar)
