Ruby hue with slight purple tints. Powerful and complex. The nose is pleasant with aromas of fresh red fruit, pepper and mint. Raspberry predominates and is followed by an aromatic, floral nose. The wine is surprisingly round given its young age, with a lot of softness and freshness creating an elegant fruit. The Syrahs exude aromas of blackberries, white pepper and hints of mint. The Grenaches bring fresh raspberry aromas and hints of fresh ginger. The texture is remarkably broad and velvety.

Perfumy and high-toned, with beautiful dried rose petal, anise, cherry and raspberry coulis flavors. Broad on the palate, with subtle chewiness adding textural intrigue and toasted alder echoing on the well-meshed finish. Ripe and generous for the vintage. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2032. 1,200 cases made, 500 cases imported.

The 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Domaine Barville comes from a mix of terroirs and is based on 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre that spent a year in foudre, old barrels, concrete, and terra cotta. Bright strawberries, redcurrants, peppery herbs, and a kiss of leather all emerge on the nose, and this lively, medium-bodied, elegant, solidly Provençal 2021 is drinking nicely today and will still be drinking nicely in 7-8 years.

The 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a full-bodied and bold red. Aromas of raspberry and strawberry jam, red cherry and mint introduce a good flavor concentration and a firm structure. It does lack a bit of elegance and the 15.5% alcohol becomes noticeable on the mildly hot finish.
