Macerated cherry, raspberry, iron and spice flavors are the hallmarks of this red, which is firm yet juicy, verging on silky, with fine harmony and a lingering finish of ripe fruit, spice and mineral. Best from 2022 through 2035.

Aromas of smoky cherries and cassis introduce the 2017 Beaune 1er Cru du Château, a medium to full-bodied, ample and succulent wine with a generous core of fruit that largely conceals its chewy tannins. Simple but nicely balanced, it should drink well young.

The 2017 Beaune du Château 1er Cru is actually a blend of 17 Premier Crus across different terroirs, incepted in 1907. It has a strict, introverted bouquet of black cherries and light bilberry jam aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly gritty tannin and moderate length, but it needs more flesh and precision toward the finish. Solid but lacking flair.
